FixFake Symposia Report- Part 1 is live!
On Wednesday, February 12, the DeepTrust Alliance published our report Deepfake, Cheapfake: The Internet’s Next Earthquake? which captures the proceedings from the 2019 FixFake Symposia in New York City, Washington, DC and San Francisco.

The FixFake Symposia convened an incredible community that is confronting these issues. Our work mapping the ecosystem of researchers, funders, consultants and tool-makers is a critical step to building the coalition to protect democracy and the information economy.
This report summarizes not only the discussion amongst leading academics and practitioners, but it also provides real world examples of the harms already impacting individuals and society. We begin here because the FixFake Symposia demonstrated that many leaders do not yet fully appreciate the threats to the information economy and society. This work represents the most current thinking on the disinformation problem space.
We are not content, however, to simply point out problems. The FixFake Symposia were convened to strategize across stakeholders how best to overcome these menaces. In Part 1, we preview some of these mitigations along with the top 100 organizations actively working to disrupt disinformation. In Part 2, we lay out the universe of solutions and propose a roadmap for collaboration, technology and policy.
In founding the DeepTrust Alliance, I was determined to bring my experience building open source software and platforms; creating multi- organization consortia and governance; and connecting technology, industry, policy and education to the seemingly insurmountable challenge of disinformation. We hope you will join us in the fight against disinformation.
